Nasdaq

Nasdaq Stock Market

The Nasdaq Stock Market is a US exchange where shares trade in US dollars. It is separate from Nasdaq’s Nordic and Baltic exchanges, so confirm that your broker offers the US listing you want.

Our coverage includes the following companies with current perks.

Dealing considerations

Identify the US listing

Nasdaq’s US exchange has three tiers: Global Select, Global Market and Capital Market, each with different entry requirements. Nasdaq also operates separate Nordic and Baltic exchanges, so check which market lists the share you want.

Check how easily the share trades

Nasdaq’s entry requirements cover shareholder numbers, publicly held shares and market makers. They do not tell you how easily you can buy or sell a particular share today. Check its trading volume and the gap between buying and selling prices.

Confirm access before comparing charges

Ask your broker whether it offers the exact share and listing you want. Once access is confirmed, compare the dealing, currency conversion and custody charges that apply to your account.

Allow for settlement and check the holding form

Most US trades settle one business day after dealing, known as T+1. Some UK routes use CREST Depository Interests (CDIs), which AJ Bell describes as UK securities representing an underlying interest in an overseas security. Ask your broker whose name the shares will be registered in, and check what ownership evidence the issuer accepts for its perk.

Check tax forms and account eligibility

US dividends can be subject to withholding tax. Your circumstances determine whether a treaty reduces that tax, and your broker may require a form to apply the reduction. Ask the broker which forms you need and whether your chosen account can hold the shares.

Brokers and charges

Compare the dealing terms below for selected brokers. Before buying, check the issuer’s eligibility rules and ask your broker what help it provides with the claim.
