Cruise shareholder benefits: compare the claim rules

Carnival, Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings offer shareholders onboard credit on eligible cruises. The credit goes to the cabin you occupy, rather than reducing the fare. Your cruise brand, booking, sailing date and ownership proof decide whether you can claim.

Start with the company behind your cruise. Carnival’s shares do not qualify a Royal Caribbean booking. Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian each have different rules below.

Check the holding and request deadline first

Each programme requires 100 shares or more in its own issuer. A holding in one company cannot supply another company’s benefit.

Credit currencies and request timing
IssuerCredit currenciesRequest timing
Carnival CorporationUSD, EUR, GBP, AUDSubmit the claim at least three weeks before departure.
Royal Caribbean GroupUSDSubmit your request at least three weeks before sailing.
Norwegian Cruise Line HoldingsUSDYour request must arrive at least 15 days before sailing.

Find the issuer behind your cruise brand

  • Carnival’s participating brands: Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Seabourn, Cunard, Costa, AIDA, P&O Cruises.
  • Royal Caribbean Group owns the Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises and Silversea cruise lines, whose ships offer holidays around the world.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings owns three cruise lines: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

The same trip length can produce different credit

The programmes divide cruise lengths into different bands. Carnival Corporation counts days. Royal Caribbean Group counts nights. Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings counts days. Read the band for your own programme rather than borrowing another line’s amount. Multiple currency columns are not a choice of payout.

Each programme needs a separate claim for an eligible booking. A previous approval does not arrange the credit for your next cruise. Check your fare’s exclusions and any other promotion before counting the credit in your budget.

Check the current claim form or app for its document requirements and upload limits before submitting. An accepted proof route does not guarantee approval of your booking. We have not tested a claim through any broker, ISA, SIPP or retirement account.

Ownership proof and claim route

If you held Carnival plc shares in the UK

Carnival combined its two listed companies on 7 May 2026. Each Carnival plc share became one share in Carnival Corporation, which trades as CCL on the New York Stock Exchange. The London listing ended.

UK holders may now hold depositary interests: these represent Carnival shares in the UK settlement system. Equiniti runs a nominee service for Carnival that holds them for some shareholders. Start with Stockperks and ask its support team how to verify this holding. Carnival’s FAQs do not explain that step.

Viking Line and Viking Cruises are different companies

Viking Line Abp is a Baltic ferry operator. Qualifying cardholders receive free regular-route travel for the holder and a standard-sized personal car; cabins and meals are excluded. Advance booking and the card’s own eligibility rules apply.

Viking Holdings operates the Viking cruise brand. Its current investor FAQ does not confirm a shareholder travel benefit. Viking Holdings shares are not Viking Line shares, so the ferry operator’s card does not establish a benefit for a Viking cruise booking.

The three onboard-credit programmes above cover only the cruise lines named in their terms. A parent company’s stake in another cruise business does not extend its benefit to that business.

UK brokers and P&O Cruises

The issuer sets eligibility. Your broker determines what ownership evidence it supplies and whether it offers a claim service. A form accepting a brokerage statement does not confirm that every broker, ISA or SIPP can complete a claim. Ask for the required evidence and leave time to resolve a rejected upload.

The UK P&O Cruises guide explains its Carnival connection and sterling credit. P&O Ferries’ unit scheme is separate; the shared name does not make the benefits interchangeable.

A cruise credit cannot protect you from a fall in the share price or dealing and currency costs. Read the investment risks before making any investment decision.
