Viking Line

Shareholder travel card

What shareholders get Free ferry travel for you and a car 1,000 shares or more

Viking Line runs Baltic ferries linking Finland, Åland, Sweden and Estonia. Its ships carry passengers and vehicles between ports including Helsinki, Turku, Stockholm and Tallinn.

What you get

The digital shareholder card covers regular route trips for the cardholder and one standard-sized personal car on Viking Line ships. Cabins and meals cost extra. The card is personal: the holder must travel, and it cannot be lent to someone else.

Which vehicles fit

The card covers a personal car up to 7 metres long and 2.40 metres high, or 2.05 metres high on Viking XPRS. It also covers a motorcycle, bicycle, electric bicycle, electric moped or Segway.

Check the type of trip

The card page promises “regular route trips”. It does not define whether day cruises, packages or Birka Gotland sailings qualify. Ask Viking Line to confirm your planned trip before booking.

What it takes

You need at least 1,000 Viking Line Abp shares.

Minimum holding period: The card page states no minimum period before application. Viking Line may check holdings during the year and deactivate the card without warning if the holding falls below 1,000 shares.

You need a Viking Line Club membership and an activated digital shareholder card before booking.

Exactly 1,000 shares held abroad

Viking Line states a general minimum of at least 1,000 shares, including holdings otherwise verified to the company. Its separate foreign-custody paragraph says the holding must exceed 1,000 shares. If you hold exactly 1,000 through a bank outside Finland, ask Viking Line to confirm eligibility before relying on the card.

Company shareholders

A company or organisation must nominate a person to receive the card and tell Viking Line by email. That person needs their own Viking Line Club membership.

Before buyingA perk is a minor benefit of owning a share, not a reason to buy one. Share prices fall as well as rise, and dealing costs, spreads and tax can exceed a perk’s value. Read about the risks.

Holding through a broker

Shares held in your own name qualify.

Nominee holders must provide proof of ownership.

Viking Line accepts a reliable bank statement proving a nominee holding, or direct registration in your own name with Euroclear Finland. Nominee holders do not receive the card automatically. This is the issuer’s proof route; ask your bank or broker separately whether it can supply the evidence.

For companions with their own activated shareholder cards, select the free-card option for each person and enter their membership numbers. Your card covers your passenger ticket, not everyone in the booking.

The card is digital

Company story

When cars stopped needing a crane

Viking Line traces its ferry service to the S/S Viking in 1959. Before these ferries, cars had to be hoisted aboard; the Viking’s ramp let cars and trucks drive on. The company’s history describes how cheaper crossings opened Finnish–Swedish car holidays to more families.
