Best shareholder perks of 2025

Rakuten offered a year of mobile service, AEON returned part of shoppers’ spending and Oriental Land marked its anniversary with a Tokyo Disney Resort ticket. Swatch’s watch, Cobram’s olive oil and Berkshire’s shopping events give our 2025 selection a different kind of appeal: a gift to keep, a gift to use and a reason to visit.

These six picks favour useful consumer benefits and distinctive experiences. They compare the offers, not the investment merits of the shares. This is a retrospective: eligibility came from the dates and rules that applied in 2025.

Rakuten: mobile service for the year

Rakuten Group’s 28th programme offered a year of mobile voice service and 30GB of data a month to holders of at least 100 shares on the 2024-12-31 register. The application process followed in 2025. Holders needed to apply even if they had used the previous year’s benefit.

The special SIM required a compatible phone and activation in Japan. Eligible domestic calls and texts were free through Rakuten Link Office, with exceptions for specified numbers and other types of call. It did not include all the features of an ordinary Rakuten subscription.

The offer stands out for repeated use over a year. It was not a travel SIM that any visitor could request on arrival: the previous December’s holding and the application both mattered. Rakuten’s announcement also explains how returning participants could keep their number.

AEON: a shopping rebate before the share split

AEON’s Owners Card rewarded repeat shopping. Under the rules through the 2025-08-31 register, 100–499 shares qualified for a 3% rebate on eligible spending. Larger holdings earned 4%, 5% or 7%. AEON calculated the rebate over each half-year.

AEON then split each share into three on 2025-09-01. Its corresponding benefit changes began with the 2026-02-28 register, not immediately with the split. The old 100-share holding became 300 shares and retained the 3% tier; new 100-share and 200-share tiers earned smaller rebates.

This is a useful household benefit for a regular customer, and a good example of why an old share threshold needs its year attached. “100 shares for 3%” accurately describes the old entry tier but gives the wrong instruction after the change. AEON’s split leaflet places both tables side by side.

Oriental Land: an extra day at a Disney park

Oriental Land, the company behind Tokyo Disney Resort, marked its 65th anniversary with an extra one-day passport. Holders of at least 100 shares on 2025-09-30 qualified for a ticket to either Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea, in addition to any other shareholder tickets they earned.

The announcement scheduled distribution for December 2025. Special operating hours were excluded.

The park admission makes this an appealing occasional reward. Only one register date counted, and the shares had to sit in the holder’s own name through a securities company participating in Japan’s book-entry depository system. The 2025 announcement sets out the terms; the tickets expired on 2026-08-31.

Swatch: a watch with a second, smaller watch

Swatch Group’s 2025 gift had a detail worth noticing: a miniature watch on the strap could be removed and worn as a pin. Chair Nayla Hayek described the retro design at the annual meeting on 2025-05-21.

The gift went to shareholders who voted at the electronic meeting or instructed the independent proxy, and Swatch posted it only to Swiss addresses. Registered and bearer shareholders had separate procedures for arranging their voting rights.

The object is the attraction: a shareholder received that year’s special watch, not a voucher for any watch in a shop. The 2025 invitation gives the voting and delivery rules; Hayek’s speech describes the design.

Cobram: an olive oil gift with a practical use

Cobram Estate Olives offered one free Essentials Bundle to Australian-resident shareholders who consented to marketing emails. The bundle contained three 600ml pouches of extra virgin olive oil and a reusable ceramic bottle, delivered to the registered address.

The form asked for the registered holding’s details and shareholder reference number. Its marketing-consent box covered both the free bundle and future shareholder offers. Those future offers did not have a guaranteed discount rate in the form.

The gift suits someone who cooks with olive oil and wants to hear from the producer. The form available in 2025 promises a single bundle, so repeated annual deliveries do not form part of this selection.

Berkshire: a shopping weekend with longer sale dates

Berkshire Hathaway scheduled a shareholder shopping afternoon at Omaha’s CHI Health Center on 2025-05-02. Borsheims held a shareholder shopping night that evening and a shareholder shopping day on 2025-05-04.

The retailer windows lasted longer. NFM’s shareholder discounts ran from 2025-04-23 to 2025-05-06, including its Dallas/Fort Worth, Kansas City and Des Moines stores. Borsheims’ discount period ran from 2025-04-26 to 2025-05-11.

The dates made this more flexible than a single day of meeting shopping. They did not turn it into a year-round discount, and the schedule gives no single discount rate across the retailers. The 2025 events schedule, on printed page 16 of the 2024 annual report, records the separate windows.

What changed after 2025?

AEON’s new tiers and Oriental Land’s expired anniversary ticket show why a 2025 list cannot supply current instructions. The 2026 guide distinguishes open offers from benefits reserved for holders who already qualified. The linked company pages give the latest claim details; the 2024 guide preserves the earlier selection.

Your broker must separately confirm whether it can arrange the required registration, voting or delivery. Share-price losses and dealing, custody, tax and currency costs can exceed the benefit. Read the investment risks before making any investment decision.
